Seattle/San Francisco based techno label, From 0-1, drops a smashing mini-compilation for their debut vinyl release just in time for the dog days of summer. Headlining this effort is "Hethradia", the very first collaboration between techno veteran Bryan Zentz and Soma's golden boy, Let's Go Outside. Hethradia is a sparse, heady effort set atop a sine wave-engorged bassline rivaling California's biggest swells. Acid drenched bells and synths chime in from another dimension to round off an effort that stands to be emblematic of both producers' more adventurous workings. Next up is Tokyo mainstay DJ Sodeyama's "Moyonga". A stunning expose of the producer's immense level of creativity, he weaves indigenous Japanese taiko drums, vocal snippets, and field recordings reminiscent of a bustling night in Shibuya. Moyonga's ingenuity blurs the line between techno, house and everything that lies between. On the flip side, From 0-1 label boss, Milkplant delivers "Pantycontrol", a raw dub-techno stomper. Stripped down to the essentials: kick, snare, hi-hats, and a couple gritty dubbed out synths; Pantycontrol is one for fans of the raw, analog flavored dub-techno tracks of yesteryear. Rounding off the release is Sone, one of Seattle's most prominent techno producers. His track, "Bunker" rolls tightly along, driven by swung-up syncopated drums, driving bass, and understated Moog action. The perfect track for the late, late pre-dawn hours.
